Cloud4Events Rules and Policies for Buyers

To help make buying on Cloud4Events a safe and enjoyable experience, we’ve put in place a number of policies and guidelines.

Many of these are based on local legal requirements, but others are based on our experience of what will help ensure a fair marketplace for everyone. So, before you bid or buy on Cloud4Events, read our policies for buyers listed below.

Transaction interference policy overview

  • Members are not allowed to interfere with another member’s transaction
  • Members are not permitted to email buyers in an open or completed transaction to warn them away from a seller or item. If you have a problem with a transaction, please contact Cloud4Events directly to report them.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

  • Listing cancellation
  • Limits on account privileges
  • Account suspension
  • Forfeit of Cloud4Events fees on cancelled listings
  • Loss of PowerSeller status

Some examples

Lucy has found the perfect dinner set for a party she wishes to host at her home. Unfortunately, the auction-style listing will not end for another 6 days and the party is this weekend! Mary decides to email the seller directly with an offer to buy the dinnerware immediately and directly from the seller and obtain overnight shipping for the item. By emailing the seller directly with an offer to purchase, Mary is in violation of the Transaction interference policy.

Why does Cloud4Events have this policy?

Cloud4Events has this policy in order to protect the community from potentially fraudulent transactions which are more likely to occur outside of Cloud4Events. Remember: if the seller offers to sell you the item directly without bidding on or winning the item on Cloud4Events, this is a violation of Cloud4Events policy and you will lose the benefit of Cloud4Events purchase protection programmes. Please report it to us immediately.

Invalid bid retraction policy overview

A bid is a binding contract that’s active until an auction-style listing ends. Once you place a bid, you need to pay for the item if you’re the winning bidder. You’re not allowed to retract bids to manipulate the bidding process, like trying to find out the maximum bid of the current high bidder or to find out the reserve price.

Honest mistakes sometimes occur, so there are a few times when you’re allowed to retract or cancel a bid if you meet the time restrictions.  Review the guidelines below.

Make sure you follow these guidelines. If you don’t, you may be subject to a range of actions, including limits of your buying and selling privileges and suspension of your account.

What are the guidelines?


It’s only OK to retract a bid if:

  • You accidentally enter the wrong amount, like entering £99.50 instead of £9.95. If you do, you need to enter the correct bid right away
  • The item description changed significantly after you placed your bid. For example, the seller updated information about the item’s features or condition
  • You can’t reach the seller. For example, you sent the seller an email and it comes back undeliverable, or you tried calling the seller and the phone number doesn’t work

 Not allowed

Examples of when you can’t retract a bid:

  • You changed your mind about buying the item
  • You wanted to find out the reserve price 
  • You wanted to find out how high another buyer bid on an item
  • You only wanted one item but placed bids on multiple identical items. You should only bid on multiple items if you intend to buy all of them


Unpaid item policy

Members must pay for the items they win or buy on Cloud4Events within 2 days of committing to the purchase.

If the item remains unpaid after that time, sellers can simply cancel an order if payment hasn’t been made starting on the 5th calendar day from when the listing ended.

What is the policy?

When a member wins an item, or uses Buy It to purchase an item, they must complete the purchase by sending full payment to the seller within 2 days. Buyers must note:

  • The cost of postage and handling, and all terms that the seller has included in the listing before deciding to purchase
  • Bids can only be retracted under exceptional circumstances

A seller may open an unpaid item case with Cloud4Events if the buyer does not pay or contact them within 2 days.

Managing unpaid items cases

  • Sellers may close the case when a buyer has not paid within 4 days
  • Sellers may be eligible to receive a final value fee credit, and if they relist the item, Cloud4Events may also refund theinsertion fee for the relisting
  • Buyers have the option of appealing and unpaid item if they believe it was undeserved
  • Sellers should avoid falsely reporting unpaid items or they may:
    • Have all credits reversed for the time period in question
    • Lose the ability to use the final value fee credit system
    • Be subject to suspension
    • Be liable for Cloud4Events to charge all
  • Unpaid items are considered a violation of our buying policies. All unpaid items are recorded on a buyer’s account. Buyers who have excessive unpaid items, or cancelled transactions, may have limits imposed, or lose their buying privileges.
  • Cloud4Events will automatically remove feedback from a buyer who didn’t pay. However, if we missed something, buyers can contact us. Feedback may be removed when:
    • The buyer didn’t pay or respond to the unpaid item process
    • The buyer is suspended
    • The buyer’s communication in the Resolution Centre undermines the purpose of the unpaid item process and feedback system

Activity that doesn’t follow Cloud4Events policy could result in a range of actions including for example: administratively ending or cancelling listings, hiding or demoting all listings from search results, lowering seller rating, buying or selling restrictions, and account suspension. All fees paid or payable in relation to listings or accounts on which we take any action will not be refunded or otherwise credited to your account.

Why does Cloud4Events have this policy?

This policy ensures buyers follow our guidelines on purchasing items in order to protect sellers and maintain a fair and safe marketplace.


Offering to buy or sell outside of Cloud4Events policy

Offering to buy or sell outside of Cloud4Events is not allowed. Buyers and sellers also can’t share contact information, including email addresses and phone numbers, prior to completing a transaction on Cloud4Events.

Contacting another Cloud4Events member to discuss moving a purchase off Cloud4Events exposes both the buyer and seller to the risk of fraud. It also means both buyer and seller are not covered by our protection programs.

What is the policy?

Buyers and sellers can’t:

  • Engage in any action with a user on the site designed to complete or facilitate a transaction outside of Cloud4Events
  • Share or request direct contact information prior to completing a sale
    • Exception: Sellers may opt to provide their phone number as part of the Ask a Seller a Question (ASQ) or any other Cloud4Events endorsed functionality
  • In any communications with another Cloud4Events member, refer to or promote external websites that facilitate sales outside of Cloud4Events
  • Use contact information obtained through an Cloud4Events transaction to offer to buy or sell an item outside of Cloud4Events
  • List an item and then mention or link to additional identical or related items for sale outside of Cloud4Events
  • Offer catalogs or other items that are used to order items directly outside of Cloud4Events
  • Host item descriptions or images outside of Cloud4Events

Buyers and sellers should:

  • Complete purchases on Cloud4Events in order to be covered by Cloud4Events protections and Cloud4Events Money Back Guarantee. Confirmation of a completed transaction on Cloud4Events can be obtained by:
    • Using the Cloud4Events checkout to complete the purchase
    • Viewing the purchase in purchase or sales history
  • Use the systems within Cloud4Events to advance transactions to accept offers for items and negotiate a price

Activity that doesn’t follow Cloud4Events policy could result in a range of actions including cancelling listings, hiding or demoting all listings from search results, blocking some or all of your messages/communication with other members, lowering seller rating, buying or selling restrictions, account suspension, application of fees, and recovery of expenses for policy monitoring and enforcement. All fees paid or payable in relation to listings or accounts on which we take any action will not be refunded or otherwise credited to your account. 

Why does Cloud4Events have this policy?

Offers to buy or sell outside of Cloud4Events are a potential fraud risk for both buyers and sellers. Transactions conducted outside of Cloud4Events are not eligible for Cloud4Events protection programs and the Cloud4Events Money Back Guarantee. Additionally, Cloud4Events has invested a great deal to connect interested buyers with great sellers and we want to participate in ongoing transactions with them.
